19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been achieved on hard surfaces

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev won his initial championship for over two years with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The athlete, a ex- world number one, has had a challenging season, winning just one win at the big events and suffering a meltdown at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his service game in particular - led to him exiting of the top ten and eventually parting ways with long-time trainer Gilles Cervara.

Now training with Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily improved in the past month - climaxing in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over Frenchman Moutet.

This marks his first championship following the Rome competition and initial on a hard court since spring of that year.

Victory also means Medvedev has achieved twenty-one titles at twenty-one various events.

"For the first time I'm at a event with my two daughters together, so to get a title is particularly special," said tennis professional Medvedev.

"This championship is in dedication of my second daughter Victoria, because the first title I achieved when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had been defeated in his last six championship matches, featuring in the German tournament in the past months.

His counter-punching approach and recurring outbursts on court had led observers to doubt if his skill to play at the highest level was finished.

But the player has implemented adjustments in the past month, striving to advance forward and compete assertively, supported by an improved serving game.

The champion came back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the challenging Moutet, securing four of the last five exchanges to take the lead.

Both players swapped break points in the second set before the challenger, bidding for his maiden ATP Tour victory, gained dominance to push for a third set.

The opponent defended four early-game opportunities in a tight final set before the champion secured a break to 15 to close out the victory.

Appropriately, Medvedev secured the title with a shot at the net, with his opponent failing to manage a volley after a lengthy match.
